Hopes on India-Pakistan Fiber optic communication link

·

Press Trust of India on November 12 last year published an exciting news that the South East Asian Nuclear rivals India and Pakistan is going to be connected with Fiber optic cables. The news was encouraging to many telecom operators in the region both in Pakistan and India.

Fiber optics in India and Pakistan have almost the same history. Both countries have been continuously making progress to catch up with the Fiber to the home technology that will make in roads in both countries. We were enthusiastic on the progress of better relationships with neighboring countries India and Pakistan. Both are brother countries but politically and religiously divided. The fiber optic communication will bring direct data, voice and image traffic between both brothers.

The 26/11 incident has put a big full stop to all the friendly infrastructure development projects. Currently the Data and voice traffic between India and Pakistan are routed through landing stations situated in a third country. This adds up the cost of the telecom services between both countries. Well wishers of Indo-Pak relations were hopeful that once the communication starts and people of both countries get faith back, the political relationship also will get improved.

India and Pakistan have very few differences and people from India and Pakistan are best friends when they meet outside India or Pakistan. Hopes are high that the proposed fiber optic link should take into effect as planned by the end of the year 2009. Once the fiber optic link is established, for the first time in the history Indian telecom operators would get access to the Pakistani market.

India’s minister of State for Commerce and Power Mr. Jairam Ramesh told that he is ure in 2009 the optical fibre link between India and Pakistan would get fully functional. Pakistan has given the green signal to Reliance Communications, Airtel and VSNL. Earlier PTCL were not allowing VSNL to bid in the tenders, but now that has also changed positively.

Pakistan telecom companies have also been keen to set up a fiber optic communication ink with India to bring down leased line costs of the Internet and data. Common people of both country want to connect and communicate. The political process makes the thing slower.

Let us hope good that both brothers will connect and communicate through fiber optic link in the near future. Wish both of them good luck!

Fiber Optics is Green!

Developed in the 1970s communication systems using optical fibers has revolutionized the telecommunications industry and have been played a leading role in the formation of New Technical Age. Fiber Optic communication is a method of transmitting information from one place to another by sending pulses of light through an optical fiber.

Fiber optics is the leading technology in the field of communication. Fiber has reached to the home finally by realizing the expectations for an unlimited bandwidth. Optical fibers still have unutilized potential for digital transmission. Learn fiber optics will give an edge and keep us updated with the technology. Watching demos, videos and reading more from internet is the cost effective option to learn about Optical fiber technology.

The fiber optic technology uses the light which forms an electromagnetic carrier wave. This will be modulated to carry information.. Optical fibers have clear advantages over other electrical transmission mediums. Optical fibers have largely replaced copper wire communications in core networks in the developed world and have been making inroads to the developing countries as well.

The communication process using fiber optics involves the following steps: Creation of the optical signal using a transmitter, relaying the signal along the Optical fiber, make sure that the optical signals do not get weakened, receiving the optical signal, and converting it into an electrical signal.

Optical fibers are eco-friendly and Fiber optic technology is Green!
Free download ITU-T specifications
Most of us search in the internet for international specifications for optical fibers, fiber optic cables and fiber optic technology based communication systems such as ITU-T, IEC, EIA/TIA, Bellcore, IEEE etc. Most of the international specifications are not free.

It must be a kind service from ITU-T that they provide most of the specifications free and anybody can download unlimited number of times! One of the most wanted ITU-T specification is ITU-T recommendation G.657A, which is for Bend Insensitive optical fiber. There are many useful recommendations and test methods from ITU-T, which the whole fiber optic industry use as a standard. Please find the links below and download the ITU-T recommedations free!
